Fun with sliders

This small interaction was a particularly fun one to create and was also part of the unpublished prototype for the Cyber Diplomacy course. My goal was to design an innovative transition between slides. Since the learning unit focused on phishing calls, I decided to simulate the dynamics of such a call as the central interaction.

To achieve this, I used the integrated slider function in Storyline and incorporated it into an iPhone-style layout. The idea was that the user would see an incoming call on the phone screen, then “slide to answer,” triggering the transition to the next slide with the course content.

To make this work, I customized Storyline’s built-in slider. I designed a green “answer” button as the slider handle and made the slider track transparent, so it wouldn’t be visible. The slider had two positions (0 and 1) and moving it from 0 to 1 revealed a new layer. As the user slid their finger, the slider motion unlocked a new phone image perfectly overlaid on the previous one, showing the incoming call screen.

I also created a timer for the incoming call using After Effects, matching its duration to the slide length so it would display the remaining time. The background of the timer was set in black so it would match the phone background The “call” itself played as a voice-over that delivered the course content.
